Bootleg ESB Series Counter Display Box (Empty)
Among foreign Star Wars trading card aficionados, the bootleg Greek Empire Strikes Back trading card set is a definite must-have. The above is a box from this set exhibiting the typical condition in which they're found. A clear case of something being so bad that it's good, this set has the following examples of low quality:
  • Every card is a blatant photocopy of an American Topps card.
  • All text was rewritten using a low-quality Greek typewriter.
  • Whenever stuck for a Greek translation, the editor wrote "Polemos ton Astron" ("War of the Stars"). This phrase is the title of dozens of cards.
  • Presumably, the couldn't tell the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. Several shots of Spock, Kirk, and the Enterprise are mixed into this set!

One other example of the massive cheesiness of this product is the crude AT-AT drawing placed on the lid of every box. It looks like they grabbed the nearest available custodian at the factory and had him whip out a quick sketch. It's the little crappy details like this that make me love this set. It's not cheese...it's fromage!
