Large Size C-3PO Acetate Sculpting
All kidding aside, this piece--the acetate master sculpting used to produce the large size C-3PO figure--is one of the most impressive Kenner prototypes I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. It's composed of several acetate pieces, all exquisitely fashioned to fit together in just the right way. Let me tell you, when holding this thing in your hand, it's more than a little hard to believe that someone sculpted it all by hand. But that's exactly what someone did. And, trust me, it's heavy.

Here are some details. On the left you see a closeup of the head; the right image shows the circular pattern located at the figure's mid section. If you look closely at the latter image, you'll notice that the disc comprising the pattern was sculpted as a separate piece and then incorporated into the figure's body.

Here we have two more detail shots. The one showing the side of the piece reveals that it was fashioned in halves, which, when joined, form the full body of the figure.

Finally, we have some shots of the figure in the disassembled state. Note the disks incorporated into the joint of the head and each limb. They allow these parts to be fit precisely into the inside torso, which was fashioned with corresponding grooves.

This is an amazing piece of craftsmanship and an amazing collectible. It's pretty satisfying to know that it's survived and rests comfortably in collector hands.
