Chewbacca (?), Darth Vader, and Stormtrooper

According to Dylan, these unlicensed figures were available very early on in Holland, before licensed action figures were available in that country. Apparently, they were not properly packaged, but were instead sold on a string, which was strung through the molded loops you can see attached to the head of the Stormtrooper (the Chewie and Vader figures have had their loops cut off). The above picture shows Chewbacca, who, from the looks of him, was probably derived from some pre-existing ape figure. Harry and the Hendersons, all the way...

Goo-fee! Apparently, the Uzay Headman figure wasn't the only foreign bootleg to have a medieval flair to it--this Vader figure must show the Dark Lord of the Sith soon after his bogus lightsaber batteries have run down in that Energizer commercial of a few years back. The Stormtrooper, for his part, bears a passing resemblance to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

I honestly love this stuff. I don't think anything comes closer to the pop-corny spirit of Star Wars than the bootleg merchandise that has sprung up to accompany it.
