Empire Strikes Back 32-Back Chewbacca
32a Backs are some of most interesting carded figure variations a collector can choose to pursue. According to one theory, Kenner unearthed some unused but outdated 12-Back blister cards early in the ESB run around 1980. Rather than simply discarding the old blister cards, they updated them with a sticker and released them as they would any then-current carded figure. As you can see from the above photo, the front of this particular Chewbacca card is that of a standard 12-Back.

The back, of course, is much more interesting. Here you can see the sticker on the bottom portion, covering the obsolete display stand mail-away offer, and showing the 20 figures issued after the initial 12 figure release. Its in the style of the standard 31 and 32-Backs, with several small photo boxes on top of a black background.

These pieces are quite scarce, and quite the prizes to anyone interested in collecting cardback variations.
