ESB Logo Metal Toy Area Sign (silver background)

This early example of what was to become the aluminum ESB logo display, features a silver background as opposed to the black employed on the production piece. Aside from its significance as a test pressing of that particular sign, the display also bears an anecdote which was related to me by its previous owner, a former Kenner model maker. Apparently, during his tour of Kenner's Toy Fair showroom, Star Wars creator, George Lucas, took exception to Kenner's logo being placed on this sign directly below that of his film, The Empire Strikes Back. Eager to please their meal ticket, the Kenner staff quickly set to marking out the offending logo on all such signs within the showroom. If you look just below the ESB logo on the pictured display, you'll notice the black rectangle that was drawn over the Kenner moniker.
